Engagement Score Explained
The Engagement Score summarizes authentic student effort in AI-assisted work — prompt quality, verification persistence, and revision depth. It is not a plagiarism percentage or an AI-detection score; educators use it alongside human judgment.

What is the Engagement Score?
It is a composite signal derived from student activity inside Edudojo workflows — primarily the Socratic Engine guided workspace. It answers: "Did this student engage deeply with inquiry, revision, and verification?"
It does not answer: "Did AI write this document?" That is a different question with different tools. See Edudojo vs AI detectors.
What does it measure?
Three signal families feed the score. Each aligns with process-based assessment rubrics educators already care about.
- Prompt quality — Specificity, iteration, and alignment with assignment goals (not raw prompt count)
- Verification persistence — Sustained checking behavior, Red Team flags, source validation
- Revision depth — Structural changes across drafts, not cosmetic edits
Signals surface for faster review on the Engagement Dashboard.
How is it different from plagiarism or detection scores?
| Metric type | Question asked | Typical misuse |
|---|---|---|
| Plagiarism match % | Overlap with known sources? | Treating match as intent |
| AI detector % | Likely machine authorship? | Auto-sanction on threshold |
| Engagement Score | Productive process effort? | Auto-grade without faculty review |
How should educators use it?
Use Engagement Score to prioritize review time — spot shallow one-shot workflows early, celebrate deep inquiry, and pair dashboard signals with draft reading and defense. It supports AI-assisted assessment checklists; it does not replace discipline expertise.
Low score ≠ automatic misconduct. High score ≠ automatic mastery. Verification events from the Red Team Protocol feed verification persistence; Socratic loops feed prompt quality and revision signals. Context always matters.
What is the honest maturity status?
Engagement Score formulas and dashboard UX are part of Edudojo's MVP in testing with Parishkar College. Classroom validation has not started. Edudojo publishes no invented efficacy statistics or customer ratings.
